Committee

As a charitable organisation we are run by a volunteer committee made up of parents/carers whose children attend the group. There are lots of reasons to become involved in your child’s playgroup. The most important reason being that your playgroup would not be able to run without a committee. Of course, it’s also a chance to really make a difference and have the opportunity to gain new skills or brush up on some old ones you may have forgotten you had!

What’s in it for me?
Make new friends – By joining our committee you will have the chance to get to know lots of the parents and make new friends for you and your children. Drop off and collection times can be busy and it can be difficult to get to know other mums or parents. The committee is a friendly team, with many of us making friends which will continue long into the future.

Make a real difference – Our committee works together as a team to do all sorts of things to improve and expand our facilities, equipment and resources for all the children attending our playgroup now and in the future. Jumble sale, bingo, fete, Easter egg hunt and craft fair are just some of the fundraising events held each year. Each committee member brings a different skill or experience to the group, helping us to be a successful group and raise funds for improvement. It’s very rewarding to see new toys in use which have been bought thanks to parents’ fundraising. It’s a lot of fun along the way too!

Increase your skills and employability – Many employers now recognise the value of working for a charity such as our playgroup on a volunteer basis. It’s a chance to feel useful and gain confidence in the person you are and the skills you possess. If you’ve been out of the work place for a while it could be beneficial when you seek employment. You would also have access to free training in a variety of topics which could help further your career.
